What is NTHS?
NTHS is the acknowledged leader in the recognition of outstanding student achievement in career & technical education. Thousands of schools and colleges are affiliated with the Society. Member schools agree that NTHS encourages higher scholastic achievement, cultivates a desire for personal excellence, and helps top students find success in today's highly competitive workplace.
Who can charter?
We work with both high schools and two year colleges that offer career and technical programs.
How do I charter?
Just fill out the charter application after the head of your institution approves your participation. There is no cost to your school to establish a charter. If you are unable to complete this form electronically, please call 828 698-8011. If you would like your charter to be framed, call for pricing.
What criteria are used to select students?
The minimum GPA we will accept is a 3.0. However, the national average that most schools use is 3.5-3.75. Many schools will also look at credit hours completed, attendance, disciplinary records, and CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organizations) membership.
What do students get?
NTHS members receive: the NTHS custom certificate, presentation folder, member pin, ID card, window decal, white graduation tassel, official NTHS diploma seal, and three personal letters of recommendation for employment, college admission, or scholarships. Students may also gain access to our Online Career Center including these valuable services: MonsterTRAK, Career Safe and Career Key. Full time students inducted as NTHS members prior to January are also eligible to apply for scholarships available through our website.
How much does it cost?
There is no fee for your school to charter. The membership fee per student is $25. This is a one time fee. Students do not need to renew their membership. They may also transfer their membership at no charge to another charter member school once they have met the criteria that school has established. Graduation accessories such as honor cords and stoles are available at an additional cost through our online catalog.
What does it take to be an advisor?
The role of an advisor is simple. Identify students who meet your criteria, invite them to an informational meeting, enter their information online, and hold a simple induction ceremony. We can provide a checklist of what to cover at the meeting as well as a script to use at the induction. We are also here to help you every step of the way! Just call!
Is there a deadline for inducting students?
No. Your school may induct any time of year, during whatever dates best fit your school’s calendar. Many of our chapters induct twice a year; once after winter grades close, and then again in the spring. Some two year post secondary proprietary schools induct every sixteen weeks as students finish their programs.
Keep in mind that full time NTHS students that have been inducted prior to January may be eligible to apply for scholarships available online during the first few months of the year.
